The Myth of Matriarchal Prehistory: Final Thoughts

I am struck by how vehemently and thoroughly Eller managed to avoid lambasting the people that believe in and support the matriarchal myth and  how even handed she tried to be, pointing out the flaws and shortcomings of evidence against the myth and easily capitulating and pointing out instances where it simply wasn't/isn't possible to discern what actually happened in prehistory.

I also appreciate her obvious respect for those that do embrace the myth and their reasons for doing so while, at the same time, I sympathize with her concerns and worries about the gender restricting and blaming inherent in the biological focus and apologism that is part and parcel with the myth.

All in all I enjoyed the book and while it was a bit of a challenge to get through in a timely manner - it's certainly not light reading - I am glad that I did read it and hope to see a reprint/update in the near future.
