So things are going swimmingly. Cascadia Proto-grove is fast becoming my home away from home. We have a wonderful group with a nice amount of diversity and a very egalitarian vibe. Work has been wonderful I recently completed a temporary assignment with glowing reviews and hope to have a chance to return to the position permanently. I'm still plugging away on the DP reading though not much recently (due to my job personal interests / life tends to cease from late October to late January) although we have tentative plans to enact an informal DP study group after our monthly meetings with the grove.
Today I spent most of the day outside cleaning up the yard, moving and stacking firewood, mowing and doing some light weeding. I now work four tens so I have three days off in a row. This is my second day off so I'm hoping to get some more done tomorrow.
I've been lucky to have wonderful and understanding friends in my life that don't mind my disappearing for several months due to work only to reappear slightly disheveled and manic later. Part of my work in the yard is both to re-acquaint myself with my home, start preparing several gardens for tasty goodness, and also prepare for a BBQ next month.
All day while I was working my local murder of crows was nearby. For a reason I have yet to determine they enjoy the power line outside my home / room (the pole is in the front corner of our front yard) and are usualy there, off causing mischief or across the street at my neighbor's home in her gorgeous evergreen. Though normally when they're in the tree they're so active you can see it's top sway and branches bounce.
I don't know if they're a sign or a friendly reminder / gift. I love watching them and I don't recall them congregating so close to me so consistently prior to February 2011 when I joined ADF. But who knows maybe my yard is particularly useful or that stretch of wire is especially pleasant to perch on. Whatever the reason they're a joy to watch especially when they tease my cats!
One of my very best friends, "B" has joined the grove and will be initiated on the 17th (I was initiated in January with several others in our founding rite) and I'm very excited for her. Her son is also very keen on ADF and will be attending, it should be a very special time for the two of them he'll be able to watch and participate in her initiation. One of the things I love about ADF and Cascadia is how open we are to youths as well as the public at large it's a wonderfully supportive and encouraging environment.
I plan to make some more candles soon, I tried to make beeswax votives but I'm afraid I gauged the wicks wrong. I'm going to try again but dilute the beeswax with some organic soy wax this time.
That's all for now!
